The summer school is addressed to young researchers working on doctoral dissertations in the field of city sociology, economics, law, and urban studies analyzing issues related to the city. The subject of the summer school’s work will be issues of the Central European city, having a clear regional specificity. Elements of this specificity are, on the one hand, urban artifacts of socialist realism that mark the central areas of cities, a significant share of residential infrastructure, has left soc-modernism in the form of large blocks of flats. Therefore, the main context of the analysis of the title problems is the processes of revolutionary social, economic, and political changes that plowed the region over the last 100 years.
Areas of interest:
1) Post-socialist city at the background of social and economic changes in Central Europe in the 21st century.
2) Socialist modernism in the evolution of Central European cities (the new millennium perspective).
3) Communities/neighborhood of enormous housing complexes in the context of different phenomena and processes: suburbanization, migration, population aging, pandemic phenomenon.
4) Prognosis of the condition of social-modern forms of housing: economic, spatial, and social context.
5) Public policies in the context of soc-modernist types of development (ghettoization, filtration, gentrification, revitalization, thermo-modernization, presumption).
6) Public space in the post-socialist city: between competition and cooperation.

Who can apply?
MA and Ph.D. students, who would like to improve their dissertations and works in social sciences, urban studies, or sociology. All the application documents, as well as lectures and activities, will be available in English only;
key concepts in the summer school course are: to provide information, training and opportunity to meet experts and present students’ work to get comments and professional feedback

Students will be selected on the basis of their motivation letters. Organizers have the right to conduct Skype interviews with the chosen candidates
